All Because of You (old unpublished poem)

I breathe, stay alive,
fill my mind with knowledge, with experience;
steer clear of the fiery edge
all because of you.

Once, I wasn’t so polite;
I was a man full of strife.
And then your eyes . . .
Yes, in a glance I’d changed.

Disdain was a mist above my foundation.
I was shivering beneath the sun.
But now, the warmth wants to know me—
I hope this never ends.

The sunlight inside of me
is all the goodness you bring.

So I breathe, stay alive,
fill my heart with romance, with love;
steer my soul into the stars
expanding all my beauty

all because of you.
