of crickets and stars.
You are the essence
which fills my thoughts.
I’m wide awakebeneath a California moon,
a conversation with my heart
telling me what it wants.
Many trails through redwood trees,Douglas fir, tan oak, and ferns;
a mountain stream at my feet:
Somehow I knew this was about you.
You, like my first encounterof the lighthouse and sea.
You, the highest epiphany
which grips me today.
I nod my head to the skyas if a god is watching,
sit and stare and breathe
until the moment fills my heart.
Now I wait for the day I’ll see you:Standing on yellow birch leaves in the sun.
Your hand extended, my eyes anxious;
our path chosen and waiting.
